Artist's Comments

I finally got the new studio unpacked enough to snap a quick shot of this, although it's still quite overrun with baby stuff for now. I can't believe how long it's taken me to try to crank out one silly painting and I still don't know when I'll be able to finish it, seeing as how my most beautiful piece of art is keeping me pretty busy... we shall see! And evidently, there *is* such a thing as leaving masking fluid on too long.

That is awesome. I just love your style! The way you do faces especially .. .

I got some crap masking fluid (maskit? or something?) and it was orange and was completely unpredictable. It cost me like nine bucks for a tiny jar and then it dried up when it was over half full! The stuff I like, that I use now, is the same brand as an oil paint, but I can't remember the name. Rubber cement works for many many things too! (Though I suppose you know that!)

Thanks! I haven't been brave enough to try rubber cement yet, but I might have to. I've already forgotten what brand masking fluid I use, but I left it on so long, it's bonded to the surface in places, so I can't remove it, but I can't paint over it either! oh well, that'll teach me...

Sometimes, the longer it takes to get some things done, the better they will turn out. Sorry to hear about the masking fluid however, I'll have to keep that in mind about that stuff!

I love how this is coming together!

Thanks! Unfortunately, we've waited so long for the little one, now that she's here, I don't really feel like doing anything else... I always wanted a family more than a career, so I'm having trouble feeling motivated to keep creating art when my most precious piece of art is already here. Unfortunately, that doesn't keep student loans from needing paid... <sheepish grin>

Understood!

Though, within a few months, nap time will be good art time...

I think the term is serendipity, happy accidents. I doubt this will look bad in the end. I wonder, perhaps careful application of a sharp razor blade could break the surface of the dried fluid enough for you to paint over it? I have often employed a blade to remove layers of material from an over done painting or color pencil piece. I am not quite familiar with masking fluid's cosistancy as I haven't spent much time painting. Looking at it though, you could turn it into a more 3d peice and cut the elements out and replace the masked parts.... just a thought. Sorry, just trying to be helpful. Having a baby does change everything. You may slow down a bit in you proliferation of work but what you produce will be more rich with meaning because you have opened your heart to another life. It shows already in what you have produced recently!
